By | November 2021

The Vinyl Institute highlighted its Megatrends Report at Vinyl360 last week. The report outlines the ten big trends with the greatest potential to disrupt or transform the vinyl industry as we know it.

The methodology

This report is the product of extensively reviewed literature and primary research by way of surveys, polls, and in-depth interviews conducted among subject matter experts, thought leaders, and influencers from the vinyl and other plastic-derivative product industries.

The megatrends

From the deployment of cutting-edge technologies – smart sensors, wearables, robotics, AI-powered assembly line automation, and more – powered by enhanced Data Analytics and Digital Connectivity, which improve worker safety, product quality, and production efficiency, and enable precise product tracking – from raw material sourcing and procurement through order fulfillment and delivery…to Decentralized Financing achieved through the adoption and mainstreaming of cryptocurrency for enhanced transactional transparency and accountability. The report also covers the challenge of Climate Change and how the industry can advance levels of sustainability and circularity to not just comply with, but to actively support the increasingly low-carbon policies.

Overall 10 megatrends were identified (listed in alphabetical order):
