Vinyl Institute Comments on Toxic Free Future’s Vinyl Chloride Shipping Report

By | January 2024

Washington, D.C. – The Vinyl Institute (VI) today responded to a new report from Toxic Free Future on the rail shipment of Vinyl Chloride (VC). Below is a statement to be attributed to Ned Monroe, president and CEO of the VI:

Safety is the number one priority of the vinyl industry. U.S. manufacturers of PVC and vinyl chloride monomer adhere to some of the most stringent safety and environmental regulations in the chemical industry. We will continue to defend this vital material that benefits American lives through clean water delivery and the preservation our nation’s blood supply. The VI and our members remain committed to working with the Environmental Protection Agency during the multi-year review process of VC under the Toxic Substances Control Act to ensure the agency has all the data necessary to complete a high-quality evaluation. Such a high-quality evaluation by the EPA will further assure that production of vinyl chloride and PVC products are safe.
