Vinyl Institute Now Accepting Student Applications for SPE Vinyltec Grants

By | August 2023

WASHINGTON, DC, August 16, 2023 – The Vinyl Institute (VI) announced today that it is now accepting grant applications to cover registration fees for up to three university students to attend the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) Vinyltec in October.

“An industry is only as good as its future members,” said Ned Monroe, President and CEO of the Vinyl Institute. “SPE’s Vinyltec conference is an amazing opportunity for the future leaders of our industry to learn more about what we’ve been working on and how we’re innovating. Vinyltec is also the perfect networking opportunity for students to get practical knowledge and meet potential future employers.”

SPE, the leading technical society for the global plastics industry, is a community of individuals involved in the technical and commercial aspects of the plastics and polymer industry. Vinyltec is the largest vinyl-focused technical conference in the United States, and companies from the vinyl value chain come to unveil developments in the vinyl industry. This year, the event, “Positioning Vinyl for Tomorrow” focuses on topics spanning the PVC industry, including technical developments, policy and regulatory updates, and achievements in sustainability.

This year’s event will be held at the Hilton Akron Fairlawn Hotel and Suites in Akron, OH from October 10-12, 2023, with day one focusing on “PVC 101” before transitioning into the main program for the last two days of the event. The VI’s grant covers the cost of student registration, lodging, and travel costs.

To be eligible to apply for the Vinyltec Grant, a prospective grantee must:

  1. Be enrolled at an accredited U.S. university.
  2. Have not received a previous VI Vinyltec grant.
  3. Be pursuing a degree in polymer science, material science, chemistry, or chemical engineering.
  4. Be able to attend Vinyltec in person from Oct. 10-12, 2023.

Applications must be received by Sept. 13, 2023. To apply for a grant, click here.
