Hear from Veteran, Retired NFL Running Back & Author at Vinyl360

By | October 2019

We’re excited to announce an addition to our Vinyl360 speaker series—Rocky Bleier, Vietnam veteran, retired Steelers running back and author of Fighting Back, will present the keynote at the awards recognition dinner on Nov. 6. Attendees may enter the keynote feeling simply ordinary but will leave with knowledge and ideas as to how they can become extraordinary achievers and how to define success in the new American century.

Rocky Bleier’s life story is a unique combination—one in which takes place in two very different settings: on the football fields of America and the battlefields of Vietnam.

His story begins on the football field—playing the sport throughout his youth and into college. Although he had played running back throughout his pre-professional football career, he didn’t fall within the ideal of what a running back should look like and had to run harder and play smarter to be able to stand out. But his career began during a late-round draft pick when he was picked up by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Before the season ended though, he was drafted to a different team, the U.S. Army, where he was taken to the battlefields of Vietnam.

After being thrust into combat early and receiving wounds from both rifle fire and grenade fragments in his legs, he was barely able to walk, and his professional football career seemed to have ended before it began.

But for more than two years, he drove himself. Little by little he overcame obstacles and fought his way back. Not only making the Pittsburgh Steelers, but also eventually becoming a starting running back on a team that won four Super Bowls.

The hard lessons Bleier learned early in his life helped him overcome adversity and reach his goals—and he will help you do the same, as we hope you’ll join us for Vinyl360 next month.
