Iberville Parish Presented with Recycled Vinyl Emergency Roof Patch Kits
Plaquemine, LA, June 9, 2025 – The Vinyl Institute, a U.S. trade association representing the leading manufacturers of vinyl, was proud to partner with Every Shelter, a non-profit based out of Houston, TX, today to present the Iberville Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness with durable Emergency Tarp Patch Kits. These recycled vinyl tarps are a critical resource for local communities affected by disasters in the U.S.
“Today’s collaboration between Every Shelter and Iberville Parish exemplifies the power of innovation and sustainability in action,” said Ned Monroe, president and CEO of the Vinyl Institute. “By transforming used vinyl billboards into emergency response tarps, Every Shelter is not only supporting communities in their times of need, but also demonstrating the immense value of recycling solutions in our industry.”
“This work started overseas helping refugees convert used billboards into the roofs of their shelters, but we are based in Houston and have lived through hurricanes and storms ourselves,” said Scott Austin Key, Co-Founder and CEO of Every Shelter. “We knew the same material that we used to help refugees could be used to help our neighbors in the US protect their homes.”
Last month, Every Shelter partnered with the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Association to launch a pilot program in Lake Charles. Every Shelter received two VIABILITY recycling grants in May of 2023 and June of 2024 to repurpose used vinyl billboards for the Emergency Roof Patch Kits being donated today. These VIABILITY grants are made possible thanks to generous contributions from four PVC resin producers (Formosa, Oxy, Shintech, and Westlake).
